ABOUT ISABS
	Founded in 1972, Indian Society for Applied Behavioural Science (ISABS) is a national, voluntary professional body of behavioural scientists engaged in applying their knowledge and skill to the well being of persons, organisations & communities. Its members work as independent consultants, trainers, counsellors, academicians, human resource development managers and community change agents. ISABS programmes focus on helping people to understand human processes better, and discover more creative and satisfying ways of relating and working. ISABS utilizes group and experience-based learning as its main learning methodology. Experiencing, reflecting, hypothesizing, conceptualising and experimenting, rather than lectures are the chief ingredients in this process of learning. ISABS also develops professionals capable of facilitating such experience-based learning in organisational and societal contexts.

Human Process Laboratories
	In a human process laboratory, a group of around 10-12 participants work together along with facilitator[s] to learn about human processes and discover more about themselves, their strengths & styles; interpersonal and group interactions; how they perceive others and are perceived by others. While this is the primary task, there is no pre-determined agenda and the group uses the ’here and now’ experience to derive this learning, using one another as resources. The facilitator helps to create a climate for such learning. The language of conversation in a lab depends on the comfort and comprehension of the group members and it is likely that more than one language may be utilized during the lab.

Objectives

To help participants -

ﻛ Become aware of her/his patterns of behaviour and its impact on others;

ﻛ Improve her/his effectiveness in interpersonal interactions and derive greater satisfaction from them.

ﻛ Recognise feelings, diagnose needs and improve her/his ability to deal with conflict.

ﻛ Discover her/his potential to live life meaningfully and effectively.

This lab is meant for all those interested in improving their personal and interpersonal efficacy and play facilitative and leadership roles in their organizations or with customers, partners or communities of practise.

Duration: 5 days (residential)

e Advanced Laboratory on Human Process (ALHP)

Objectives

To help participants -

ﻛ Enhance learning and experimentation initiated by her/him in the Basic Lab on Human Process.

ﻛ Develop greater awareness of behavioural processes associated with her/his life, and work on dilemmas faced in the context of perceived realities.

ﻛ Practice skills of observation of human processes and interventions.

For Whom

Individuals who have participated in a Basic Human Process Lab and wish to continue exploring themselves or enroll for professional development program with ISABS.

Duration 5 days (residential)

Facilitators

Facilitators for this event will be invited from Professional members of ISABS, majority of them from the Mumbai Region. The event may also have some persons who are pursuing professional development with ISABS in the role of an intern or an observer.

Tarang 2008 is being offered for two weeks based on the overwhelming response received for ISABS events over the last three years. Second week will be run only if there are greater number of nominations than what can possibly be accommodated during the first week.

Programme fee

INR 18,000/-

The fees include the cost of board & stay, programme material and the administrative expenses. Participants are requested to make their own travel arrangements to and from the venue. Accommodation for participants in available only on twin sharing basis.

Scholarships are available to self-sponsored individuals and individuals working with NGOs or educational institutes with limited funding capacity. Scholarship application needs to be submitted to the Scholarship committee, ISABS Mumbai chapter through email (isabs.mumbai@gmail.com) or on the address mentioned below.

Payable in full by demand draft or local cheque in favour of “Indian Society for Applied Behavioural Science, Mumbai Chapter” along with nomination form. Kindly fill in the Nomination Form and send it with full payment either by courier or registered post before 25^th February 2008. Nominations will be accepted on a first come first served basis.

Any cancellation after the confirmation of nominations will entail a deduction of 50% of the programme fee towards administrative costs incurred by us. Cancellations after 20^th February will not be entitled to any refund.

Dance therapy involves the use of natural body movements to attain therapeutic goals. Dance therapists encourage participants to evolve a personal movement language to achieve holistic growth and healthier functioning. This therapy helps to increase the emotional-physical unity in individuals affecting positive changes in feelings, cognition, behaviour and physical functioning. Participants also gain a better understanding of their movement potential, conflicts and needs.

Taking part in individual, group, and partnership activities, participants enhance their range of motion, creativity, problem solving skills and team building capacities. While befriending their bodies through movement and interacting with others, participants learn to reinforce social skills more effectively.

This participatory program consists of three broad segments. Theory includes historical evolution, techniques, principles and objectives of dance therapy. The practical segment consists of body awareness practices, warm ups, relaxation routines, creative movement activities and games in combination with techniques from Indian and Western dance theatre. The third segment consists of evaluation and assessment in which participants learn to analyze movement patterns and behaviour.

After reviewing the introductory workshop, participants will be further guided through the theory and practice of dance therapy. Therapeutic elements from Indian dance forms, kinds of groups encountered, philosophy/methods of pioneer dance therapists, body/self image, providing variety of movement experiences in sessions, and assessing group movement behaviour will be discussed. Case studies will also be examined to reinforce the idea of therapeutic dance. Alongside learning fresh movement games and activities, participants will develop facilitation skills to conduct movement activities.

In clusters, they will be given assignments to create their own movement activities under concepts like strength building, physical contact, or setting personal boundaries etc.

Who can attend

The program is open to special educators, school teachers, dancers, actors, visual artists, team leaders, social workers and therapists working with NGO's and other heterogeneous groups. The workshop will help participants use movement in sessions with children or adults they work with.

Pre-requisites

None, participants do not need to have prior training in dance. No observers allowed.

Profile of facilitator

Tripura Kashyap is a dance therapist and choreographer. She received her degree in classical dance from Kalakshetra, Chennai. She studied Dance Therapy and contemporary dance at Hancock Centre, U.S.A and holds an M.A degree in Psychology.. She has received the Ashoka International Fellowship for her innovative work in dance/movement therapy. Tripura also conducts workshops on contemporary/creative dance, physical theatre, and dance in education. She has written a book titled " My body, My wisdom", a book on Creative Dance Therapy published by Penguin.

I appreciate your efforts in setting up blog.

My best wishes for new year.

I am happy to share with all that I have started a new organization named "Niramaya Jeevan Manch". The central theme is "Harmony: with self, others, society and nature". The learning programs and sharing will be around this theme. The forum will also bring together people who are seeking alternatives in living, and create a space for sharing and explorations.

The organization is a non-profit one.

The first program is organized on 19th and 20th Jan. It is a two days' workshop in Marathi called "Nisargayan". This is focussed on our development model and way of living, and its impact on environment. In this workshop we will explore alternative and eco-friendly living style.
The program is non-residential one, and will be conducted at Mahatma Gandhi Vidyamandir, Bandra (E). Dilip Kulkarni (author of Nisargayan, dainandeen paryavaran, etc), Dr. Paurnima Kulkarni and myself will facilitate learning. Dilip and Paurnima have been living in a small village, and are authentically following eco-friendly living. Special event and Mumbai Chapter Spring event 2008

The special event planned from next Sunday has been postponed for now. There were insufficient nominations as well as very little time to ensure that people came to know about it early enough to facilitate the planning of the event. It is likely to be held in March (end) or April (early) 2008. No dates have been decided on as of now, but the minute they are, you will be able to find out over here.

The regular Mumbai Chapter Spring Event for 2008 is going to be called Tarang this time, and will be held from the 29th of Feb to the 4th of March 2008. The brouchre is not yet ready, but when it is ready, you will be able to see it here, as well as receive information through the newsletter, if you are subscribed.

Efforts are still on to get the emails of everyone from the Mumbai Chapter for the newsletter list. We request you to sign up from the link provided in the margin to be sure that all information reaches you on time.

Some things we are trying to figure out

For those wondering what is happening, I'm trying to share some things we spoke about in yesterday's meeting that are still pending decision/action.

One was a contact point and a means of quickly and efficiently spreading word among members, which is this place and the newsletter.

Another thing we spoke about was locations for meetings - meeting every month means that we need places to meet in every month. This time, Pratima and Sunil generously offered their hearts and home (and were clear that we are welcome there for meetings in the future as well).

Two hours were not enough, so there is a plan to make the February meeting an all day thing in the National Park. The date was tentatively decided as the 9th, but we are still coming to a concrete thing on it, so stay tuned. Meanwhile, if you would like to host meetings, have locations to suggest, etc. claim your space so that we can all enjoy your ideas and generosity.

What else......? Oh yes. Wasundhara expressed concern that very few people have joined the special event and we are not sure if everyone had got information about it on time. What I will do is have a talk with her and Vikram and post the information right here for all to see. Probably by tomorrow. If you are in a hurry to know more and sooner, feel free to contact them directly and ask.

Yesterday was the first meeting after the Umang and National events, so there was a lot to talk about. We also had a very special guest Sushma brought along - Susan. She arranges marriages in the US, and talking with her was a very special experience and insightful. Safe to say that most of us revisited our own marriages and the unmarried ones got some very nice ideas for when they marry. Conversation, as they say was lively. Exact content? heh. Attend the next meeting :D

The Mumbai chapter is buzzing with energy, and I anticipate lots of things making their way onto this platform very soon.

Hi everyone,

We had a "monthly meeting" today at Pratima's place on the Juhu Versova link road. Altaf and Pratima had organized it and Pratima's home was fabulous, and the warmth with which Pratima welcomed us there and her enthusiasm as the host was even better.

An important thing came to our notice. Monthly meetings are not really happening monthly, and it is very difficult to communicate these meetings to everyone in the chapter, so that they can avail the opportunity.

This blog has come to birth from this need to be able to communicate these things to everyone easily. I am also taking the liberty of adding every name I come across of people from the Mumbai chapter on a newsletter (That originally runs on my website - I'm just creating a special newsletter list for us). This is immediate measures to bring about a change.

Eventually, I am planning on having a website dedicated to this, and the newsletter software installed on it as well, so that it is a completely independent thing. Then, I would even add discussion forums. That will take an investment of time and money, so if this goes well, and we need the independence, that would be the next logical step.

In the meanwhile, here's how you can help:
